A Representative from Washington. Born in Dillon, Beaverhead County, Mont. , December 11, 1927. Moved with his parents to Monroe, Snohomish County, Wash. , in 1944. Graduated from Monroe High School in 1946. Served in the United States Navy from January 1946 to November 1947. Graduated from Everett Junior College in 1950. Part owner-operator of gasoline station, 1950-1954. Graduated from Gonzaga University School of Law in 1958 and was admitted to the bar the same year. Deputy prosecuting attorney in Spokane and Snohomish Counties, 1958-1960, practiced law in Everett, Wash. , 1960-1962. Prosecuting attorney, Snohomish County, 1962-1964. President of Snohomish County Young Democrats, 1960-1962. Board member of Snohomish County Democratic Central Committee, 1961-1963. Elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-ninth and to the six succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1965-January 3, 1979). Was not a candidate for reelection in 1978 to the Ninety-sixth Congress. Resumed the practice of law in Washington, D. C. Died on August 17, 2005, in Church Creek, Md. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
