United States Army Reserve. Member, South Carolina state house of representatives, 1949-1952. Was admitted to the bar in 1947. Lawyer, private practice. Appointed solicitor, Thirteenth Judicial Circuit of South Carolina, and elected in 1954 and reelected in 1958. Secretary, Greenville County Planning Commission, 1963-1967. Trustee, Greenville Hospital System, 1966-1968. Commander, state of South Carolina, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1951-1952. Elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-first and to the four succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1969-January 3, 1979). Was not a candidate for reelection to the Ninety-sixth Congress in 1978. Resumed the practice of law. Died on December 20, 2010, in Greenville, S. C.
