Appointed solicitor, Thirteenth Judicial Circuit of South Carolina, and elected in 1954 and reelected in 1958. Secretary, Greenville County Planning Commission, 1963-1967. Trustee, Greenville Hospital System, 1966-1968. Commander, state of South Carolina, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1951-1952. Elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-first and to the four succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1969-January 3, 1979). Was not a candidate for reelection to the Ninety-sixth Congress in 1978. Resumed the practice of law. Died on December 20, 2010, in Greenville, S. C.
