United States Navy, 1944-1946. Lawyer, private practice. Assistant State's attorney, Du Page County, Ill. , 1950-1952. Member of the Illinois state house of representatives, 1957-1965. Elected as a Republican to the Eighty-ninth and to the nine succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1965-January 3, 1985). Not a candidate for reelection to the Ninety-ninth Congress in 1984. Adjunct faculty, Georgetown University Law Center, Washington, D. C. Board member, Legal Services Corporation, 1989-2001. Interim president, Legal Services Corporation, 2001-2003. Died on October 30, 2005, in Warrenton, Ill. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
