A Representative from Ohio. Born in South Bend, Saint Joseph County, Ind. , December 21, 1915. Moved to Columbus, Ohio, in 1920. Attended the public schools in Columbus, Grandview, and Upper Arlington, Ohio. Attended Colgate University in 1933 and 1934, Ohio State University 1934-1937. University of Notre Dame, LL. B. , J. D. , 1940. Was admitted to the bar in 1940 and practiced law in Columbus, Ohio. In 1940 was appointed special agent, Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Department of Justice, and served until his resignation October 1945. Resumed the private practice of law in Columbus, Ohio. Member of the Ohio house of representatives 1951-1955. Prosecuting attorney, Franklin County, Ohio, 1955-1958. Former chairman Ohio Un-American Activities commission. College football official for 27 years. Elected as a Republican to the Eighty-sixth and to the ten succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1959-January 3, 1981). Unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1980 to the Ninety-seventh Congress. Died June 27, 1997.
