Biography
A Representative from Arizona. Born in Oak Park, Cook County, Ill. , September 17, 1930. Attended Illinois public schools. B. S. , Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill. , 1951. LL. B. , Harvard University Law School, 1954. Fulbright Scholarship, University of Cologne, Germany, 1954-1955. Studied at The Hague Academy of International Law. Admitted to the Illinois bar in 1954 and commenced practice in Chicago. Served in the United States Army, captain, 1956-1961. Former member of political science faculties at the University of Maryland and Arizona State University. Practiced law in Phoenix, Ariz. State senator, 1965-1972. Delegate, Arizona State Republican conventions, 1962-1972. Elected as a Republican to the Ninety-third and to the Ninety-fourth Congresses (January 3, 1973-January 3, 1977). Was not a candidate in 1976 for reelection to the Ninety-fifth Congress, but was an unsuccessful candidate for nomination to the United States Senate. Unsuccessful candidate for nomination to the One Hundredth Congress in 1986. Died on June 18, 2021, in Asheville, N. C.
