Biography
A Senator from Utah. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, November 13, 1898. Attended the public schools and the University of Utah. During the First World War, served as a second lieutenant of Infantry. Returned to the University of Utah and graduated in 1919. High school principal and later businessman and paint manufacturer. President, National Association of Manufacturers in 1949. Elected as a Republican to the United States Senate in 1950. Reelected in 1956, 1962, and again in 1968 and served from January 3, 1951, until his resignation December 20, 1974. Was not a candidate for reelection in 1974. Resumed business pursuits. Was a resident of Salt Lake City, Utah, until his death on December 19, 1993. Interment at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
