Status: in_committee. Latest action: March 4, 2026.
K-12 school facilities appropriations.
The bill would provide funding for K-12 school building and facility projects for the biennium from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2028, and for the remainder of the current biennium ending June 30, 2026. The bill would provide appropriations, effective immediately, for specified design projects, component major maintenance projects, and demolition projects. The bill would also provide appropriations for charter school leases, modular buildings, design, construction, demolition, and unanticipated costs. Additionally, the bill would establish a $10 million grant program for school facility safety and security projects, including security vestibules and vehicle barricades, with funds distributed based on a prioritized list created by the School Facilities Commission. The bill specifies conditions for expenditures, reporting requirements, and procedures for reversion of unspent funds to the public school foundation program account. It also allows the School Facilities Commission to submit supplemental budget requests for emergencies or modifications. Reporting on project progress and expenditures is required annually to the legislature and governor. The bill would take effect immediately upon becoming law.
