Local departments of social services; burial assistance program. Permits local departments of social services to pay the reasonable funeral expenses, not to exceed $1,000, of a decedent who was a recipient of social services or Supplemental Security Income. The bill prohibits such payment unless persons legally responsible for the support of the decedent are unable to pay the expenses and other benefits are insufficient to pay the expenses.
