AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 49, relative to education freedom scholarships.
Under present law, education freedom scholarships may be used for tuition at private schools , and a recipient's parent must not enroll the student in a public school for any year the student receives the scholarship. This bill authorizes a recipient to use the scholarship at an out-of-district public school . For a recipient using the scholarship at an out-of-district public school the scholarship amount will be equal to tuition and fees charged by the out-of-district public school in which the student is enrolled , and is solely state-funded. A recipient enrolled in an out-of-district public school must be annually administered the assessments required for public school students who are enrolled in the same grade level or course as the recipient. The school that enrolls the tests and must provide the test results to the OREA in the comptroller's office in the same manner as required under present law for private schools that enroll recipients.
