Summary

Present law requires all new, altered , and existing elevators, dumbwaiters , and escalators, except dormant elevators, dumbwaiters , and escalators, to be tested and inspected . This bill requires the chief elevator inspector to conduct a final acceptance inspection upon completion of the install ation, modification, or alteration of a private residence elevator before such elevator is placed in service. Upon completion of the final acceptance inspection of a private residence elevator, the homeowner must register the private residence elevator wi th the department of labor and workforce development . Registration must be made on a form furnished by the department. The chief elevator inspector must develop and maintain a database of private residence elevators.
