Title: AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 68, relative to Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease.
Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) is a group of inherited conditions passed down through families that cause nerve damage. This damage mainly is in the nerves of the arms and legs, and causes smaller, weaker muscles. It may also cause trouble walking, and loss of feeling in the legs and feet. People with CMT most often get symptoms in the teen years or early adulthood , b ut symptoms may start in midlife or in the toddler years. Until July 1, 2027, this bill requires t he department of health to create an outreach campaign utilizing print, radio, social media, or television public service announcements, advertisements, posters, or other materials regarding the ongoing research of CMT in this state . The department must establish and promote a toll-free telephonic or web-based hotline for a person to report the person's diagnosis or to donate to the research of such disease. The department must include the following categories for the outreach campaign: Data portal development and security . Community outreach and public service announcements . Honoraria, strategy, and travel . Materials, toolkits, and media . Program evaluation and contingency.
