Elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Tenth Congress, by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Representative Martin Meehan, and reelected to the five succeeding Congresses (October 16, 2007-January 3, 2019). Was not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Sixteenth Congress in 2018.
