Member of the Ohio state senate, 1967-1972. Delegate, Republican National Convention, 1972. Elected as a Republican to the Ninety-third and to the seventeen succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1973-January 3, 2009). Was not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Eleventh Congress in 2008. Died on July 19, 2017, in Bethlehem Township, Ohio.
