Attended Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, 1948-1950. Attended Portland State University, Portland, Oregon, 1952-1953. D. M. D. , University of Oregon Dental School, Portland, 1953-1957. United States Navy Dental Corps, lieutenant, 1957-1959. Dentist. Member of the Carlsbad City Council, Carlsbad, Calif. , 1976-1978. Elected mayor of Carlsbad, Calif. , 1978-1982. Elected as a Republican write-in candidate to the Ninety-eighth and to the eight succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1983-January 3, 2001). Was not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Seventh Congress in 2000.
