Elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Twelfth Congress, by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of United States Representative Gabrielle Giffords, and reelected to the succeeding Congress (June 12, 2012-January 3, 2015). Was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Fourteenth Congress in 2014.
