Biography
A Representative from New York. Born in Brooklyn, N. Y. , June 9, 1924. Attended West School of Long Beach, Long Beach High School, and Brown University, Providence, R. I. Enlisted as a private in the United States Army Air Corps November 16, 1942, was promoted to staff sergeant in a chemical weapons company and assigned to the China-Burma-India Theater, and was discharged in November 1945. Served as a lieutenant in the judge advocate's office, and in Air Force Reserve, 1945-1955. Resumed studies at Brown University until 1947. LL. B. , Harvard University Law School, 1950. Was admitted to the bar in October 1950. Served in the United States attorney's office, Eastern District of New York, 1953-1959. Entered the private practice of law in Mineola, N. Y. , in 1959. Delegate, Republican National Convention, 1968. Elected as a Republican to the Eighty-eighth and to the eight succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1963-January 3, 1981). Was not a candidate for reelection in 1980 to the Ninety-seventh Congress. Chairman, Long Island Development Agency. Was a resident of Garden City, N. Y. , until his death in Washington, D. C. , on August 4, 1987. Interment in Holy Rood Cemetery, Garden City, N. Y.
