Sustaining Access to Vital Emergency Medical Services Act of 2001 - Amends the Public Health Service Act, as amended by the Children's Health Act of 2000, to direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services to award grants to eligible entities to enable such entities to provide for improved emergency medical services in rural areas.
Amends titles XVIII (Medicare) (including part C (Medicare+Choice) of the Medicare program) and XIX (Medicaid) of the Social Security Act to establish a prudent layperson standard for emergency ambulance services under Medicare and Medicaid.
