Elected as a Republican to the One Hundred Seventh Congress, by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of United States Representative E. G. "Bud" Shuster of Pennsylvania and reelected to the eight succeeding Congresses (May 15, 2001-January 3, 2019). Chair, Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure (One Hundred Thirteenth through One Hundred Fifteenth Congresses). Was not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Sixteenth Congress in 2018.
