United States Army, 1987-1992. Served in Operation Desert Storm during the First Gulf War, attaining the rank of captain and receiving the Bronze Star. Software company and investment firm president and chief executive officer. Under secretary for export administration, Department of Commerce, 2005-2006. Deputy national security advisor for international economic affairs in the George W. Bush administration, 2006-2007. Under secretary for international affairs, Department of the Treasury, 2007-2009. Elected as a Republican to the United States Senate in 2024 for the term ending January 3, 2031.
