D. , Yale University School of Law, New Haven, Conn. , 1982. Lawyer, private practice. Director and founder, Broward County, Fla. , Medicare information program, 1981-1982. Member of the Florida state house of representatives, 1982-1993. Elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Third and to the five succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1993-January 3, 2005). Not a candidate for reelection, but was an unsuccessful candidate for nomination to the United States Senate in 2004.
