Sonny Callahan

A Representative from Alabama. Born in Mobile, Mobile County, Ala. , September 11, 1932. Graduated from McGill Institute High School, Mobile, Ala. , 1950. Attended the University of Alabama, Mobile, Ala. , 1959-1960. United States Navy, 1952-1954. Businessman. Member of the Alabama state house of representatives, 1971-1979. Member of the Alabama state senate, 1979-1983. Unsuccessful candidate for the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor in 1982. Elected as a Republican to the Ninety-ninth and to the eight succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1985-January 3, 2003). Not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Eighth Congress in 2002. Died on June 25, 2021.
